Archangel Michael is the foremost among the Archangels. He was the first to rise up against Satan and the rebellious angels with the cry “Who is like God!” – and that is exactly what his name means. He is mentioned several times in Holy Scripture: as the defender of the people of Israel and one of the chief princes of heaven in the Book of Daniel, and as the leader of the heavenly spirits fighting Satan in the Apocalypse of St John. In the apocrypha he is shown as the one to whom God entrusted tasks requiring particular strength; therefore he intercedes with God for people, accompanies the dying in the face of death and their souls on the way to heaven. In iconography he is most often shown as a young man in armour, with wings and a sword in his right hand. (After www.drogaikony.org.pl).

The icon was written for my son Michał. The icon is now in Jasienica near Bielsko-Biała.
