This icon stands out among the icons of the Mother of God. According to tradition, the original icon was found in a field in the village of Akhtyrka in Russia in the 18th century and was surrounded with great veneration. Iconographically, it draws on Italian art. On the left it shows the Mother of God with her hands folded in a gesture of prayer. She turns her gaze towards Christ crucified on Golgotha, shown on the right side of the icon. In the icon presented here, the Mother of God adores the Crucifix.
