description
The Vladimir Mother of God is of the type called Eleousa, or Umileniye. This type has been known since the 8th century. It shows Mary pressing her cheek to her Son’s cheek. The head of the Mother of God is tilted slightly towards Jesus, and He embraces Her around the neck. This icon is filled with great lyricism. It is not only an image of the tender closeness of Mother and Son but at the same time belongs to the most mystical types of Marian icon.
how it was made
An icon written during the icon-writing workshops in Falenica in 2012.
