description
The icon of Our Lady of Philermos is now in the National Museum of Montenegro, in a chapel created especially for it. According to tradition, this icon was written by Saint Luke in 46 for the Christians of Antioch. The history of this icon is very turbulent; over the centuries it changed its location many times, among others: Jerusalem, Constantinople, Acre, Crete, Rhodes – where it was kept for 200 years in the fortress on Mount Philermos, which is where the icon’s name comes from – then Jerusalem again, Malta, Trieste, Rome, Austria, Russia, Estonia, Denmark, Belgrade, Yugoslavia and finally Montenegro. This icon is the patroness of the Order of the Knights of Malta.
how it was made
The icon was painted for Marta as a wedding gift. Now in Wrocław.
