description
This icon is an image of the Saviour after a 12th-century icon. In Greek this type of icon is called Acheiropoietos, and in Slavonic Spas Nerukotvorny, which translates as the image of the Saviour “not made by human hands”. It is also sometimes called the Mandylion (Greek mandylion – cloth). The legend of King Abgar is connected with this icon. It is said to be the “icon of icons”, and that every iconographer who paints it puts their talent to the test.
how it was made
The icon was created in 2012 out of my personal need to write a Mandylion. Currently available for sale.
